Together: Family Work

Together Project

The What? Centre alongside our partner organisation Believe to Achieve have secured funding from the Lottery Community Fund to provide group support and counselling to families.

There will be short-term family support in the form of support groups and involves family members working together, families interacting with one another, and parents and children working separately to develop relationships and share experiences as well as information sharing.

We currently have 2 groups running. Tuesday’s alternate weeks at 5pm we have a group running in our Dudley building. This is a course of 6 group sessions that covers: parent and child anxiety, anger management, self-harm and suicide – what to do, sibling rivalry, issues in school, and internet use – how it affects your mental health. Our second group runs every Thursday at 5pm on Zoom and focusses on family anxiety support. This is a more informal peer support group, which you can drop in and out of as you wish.

The more in-depth work will be family counselling sessions that look at how family members relate to one another, identifying patterns of behaviour that affect each member’s mental health and wellbeing. Some of these sessions are delivered face to face in our Dudley centre and some online via Zoom.

If you feel you would benefit from support for your family, please fill in our referral form here alternatively you can email [email protected] for further information. If you are looking for family work around LGBTQ+ issues, please visit our Fusion page for specialist LGBTQ+ family work.

The aim of the together project is to improve the lives of families, children and young people where families are experiencing difficulties that get in the way of them enjoying a good family life.

The main beneficiaries will be families experiencing disadvantage in terms of, for example, finance, poor emotional health and wellbeing, domestic violence or bereavement. We want to help families who feel they have run out of ideas, or lack the resources, knowledge or skills to cope.

    Reporting Hate Crime

The police don't tolerate hate crime, why should you? Reporting hate crime makes a difference. You can help prevent a hate crime happening to someone else in your community and other communities, and you can help the Police better understand hate crime and improve their responses to it, including making arrests. If you do not feel comfortable contacting the Police directly, The What? Centre can do so on your behalf. We can keep your identity anonymous, or pass on your details.

Referrals to The What? Centre

Please note that our referral system has changed.

For children and young people aged 5-18 (or up to 25 LDD) you need to be referred by a GP or other professional to what is called a Single Point of Access (SPA) based at CAMHS and professionals can make the referral directly to this by email on [email protected] or telephone 01384-324689.

The SPA then allocates clients to ourselves and other relevant organisations according to the needs of the client.

However, we are still open for self-referrals for specific projects:

BeeHIVe - HIV testing, counselling and support project.

18-25’s COUNSELLING.

LGBTQ+ one-to-one counselling (13 to 18 year olds)
BAME one-to-one counselling (13 to 18 years old)
LGBTQ+ Group support (13-18 year olds)

All of the above are free services for clients.

All of our services are available for young people who have a GP in the Dudley Borough. To refer to BeeHIVe, our LGBTQ+ and BAME projects, 18-25’s counselling and also private counselling use the referral form on this website.

We can also provide private counselling at £58 per 50 min. session with a minimum number of 6 sessions and above.
